This is the year we ve all been waiting for as the 5,125 year Mayan Calendar comes to an end on the December 21st, Winter Solstice. According to the Maya, we are moving from the Fifth World into the Sixth at this time and there are other significant celestial aspects during the year of 2012 that also support the idea of an important change in the condition of life on earth. While I do see potential for continued strife in the world as a result of celestial and astronomical aspects in 2012, I don t in any way, subscribe to the belief that the world is coming to an end! In the view of the Maya, cataclysmic changes accompany the transition from one world to the next but there is never discussion of the End. Instead the Maya welcome the arrival of the Sixth Sun as the start of a completely new 5,125 year cycle. In 2012 the outer planets as well as inner ones will be involved in a cosmic dance of important proportions culminating on December 21st in a beautiful and transformational aspect that resembles the symbol of the butterfly.

The action begins on Saturday, February 4th as Neptune enters its home sign of Pisces for the 1st time since 1848. The Neptune cycle through a single sign of the zodiac is about 14 years, which means that it takes an average of 168 years to return to a given sign. Since Neptune was discovered in 1846, this is the first time in history that tens of thousands of people on the planet will be aware of its return to the sign of Pisces. Just by the fact that we are conscious of its energy, Neptune s influence will become more fully integrated into our collective psyche. In general, Pisces energy inspires us to immerse ourselves in matters relating to belief and religion, to acknowledge a greater sense of empathy for our fellow man and inspires our interest in universal values. So we are likely to see a number of ground-breaking charitable enterprises get their start between 2012 and 2026 while Neptune swims through the sign of the Fish. But, while Pisces is known for its psychic, religious and creative qualities, it is also known to be the harbinger of chaotic states where the masses revolt against the powers that be. Shades of Occupy Wall Street? You betcha! The idea of the 99% versus the 1% comes straight from the Neptune and Pisces phrase book. A brief look at history tells us that it s time to fasten our celestial seat belts as the passage of Neptune through its home sign is known to be quite a wild ride. Neptune was in Aquarius in 1517 when Martin Luther spoke for the masses, no longer able to tolerate corruption and domination by the Roman Catholic Church. Then when Neptune moved into Pisces (1521-35) Protestant Reformation swept across Europe seeking and finally securing religious reform. The collapse of the Aztec and Inca empires also came during this time with the Aztec collapse in 1521 and the fall of Atahualpa in Peru in 1533. The Salem witch trials took place during the following passage of Neptune through Pisces 1685-99 especially in the years surrounding 1692 when a mass hysteria swept through the American colonies intensified by the puritanical religious beliefs of the time. In 1861 toward the end of the last transit of Neptune through Pisces (1848-63) the US Civil War broke out over the issue of slavery in which the few fought to continue to benefit from the labor of the many. Expect the Occupy Wall Street Movement and the Arab Spring in the Middle East to continue 2012 through 2015. Upstart Uranus in Aries squaring conservative Pluto in Capricorn will usher in much needed governmental and financial reforms.

Another important aspect in 2012 is the grand trine in earth signs that perfects on Tuesday, March 13th. This Grand trine of Venus and Jupiter in Taurus, Mars in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn has the capacity to help humanity get a firmer grasp on the need for practical self-care as well as responsibility for the planet, our fellow man and the myriad of animal species that are now so endangered. Venus is very strong in its home sign of Taurus as this Grand trine in earth takes place. Conjunct Jupiter, the planet of expansion, Venusian diplomacy and practical good sense has the capacity to be united with Jupiterian wisdom and vision. A worldwide prayer for peace on this Tuesday would certainly go far.

Venus plays and important role all year and takes center stage on June 5th when she makes the second of two very rare visible transits in front of the Sun, just one day after the Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius. Venus is now in Gemini as of June 2nd and through this transit as a Morning Star, brings about the assertive, Amazonian side of Venus which the Maya saw as a harbinger of war. Strong women in politics such as Angela Merkel of Germany and Ang San Suu Kyi of Myanmar (both of whom are born with Morning Star Venus) will be likely to have an impact on world news this summer.

The Venus transits are so rare that they only happen every 243 years. When they come, they empower women and gender issues in transformative new ways. The last transit in this series took place on June 8th, 2004. On June 5th of 2004 the first same sex marriage was celebrated near Bordeaux France, reportedly inspired by same sex marriages in San Francisco. The last time the Venus transits took place was 1761-1769 when both Catherine the Great became Empress of Russia and Empress Go-Sakuramochi succeeded her brother on the throne of Japan in the year 1762. The time before that was in 1518 and 1526 at the time of the arrival of Spanish conqueror, Hernan Cortes, to Mexico in 1519 and when strong female ruler-behind-the-throne Catherine de Medici was born a Morning Star Venus in 1519. This coming June 5th, people living in Northern Europe will be very fortunate to have a chance to see this very rare Venus/Sun conjunction. Check the NASA website as the time draws near if you live in Europe.

Later in the months of June and in September there will be two exact Uranus/Pluto squares. Uranus traveling through the sign of upstart Aries is challenging the status quo of Pluto in traditional Capricorn. The Uranus/Pluto squares have been in effect since 2010 and will continue to bring revolutionary clashes our way through 2015. In the mid 1960 s Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in Virgo as anti-war protests and the hippie culture bloomed in the U.S. Now 45 years later, at the square, this same energy of revolution is blooming in technicolor again.

In November and December Saturn and Pluto move into a sextile (or encouraging) aspect to each other which symbolizes our need and ability to work hard and focus our energy on important tasks at hand. This aspect encourages us to restrict our energies and focus them on the area of our most heartfelt goals. Now in retrograde, Jupiter moves into position at 9 degrees Gemini to become the apex of an exact double quincunx--- a type of yod or finger of God on the day of the Winter Solstice which symbolically marks the end of the 5,125-year Mayan Calendar. The finger of God is named thus because it resembles the golden pencil in orthodox Jewish synagogues which points the way toward the inner sanctum where the Torah is housed. This yod looks like a large Y-shape with Jupiter at the bottom of the Y and Saturn and Pluto at either end of a V-shape in a 60 degree (sextile) aspect to each other. While a true yod must have the outermost planet as its apex, the exact position of the three planets at 9 degrees Sagittarius makes this configuration noteworthy. I had a personal revelation about this yod when seeing an English Crop Circle in the shape of a butterfly recently. Butterflies are a well-known symbol of transformation. The December 21st Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto Yod forms a Y-shape similar to a butterfly s wing. I couldn t help but wonder then, could there be another yod in the chart of the Winter Solstice Day to form the other wing? Sure enough! Uranus at 5 degrees Aries forms a sextile to Jupiter at 9 degrees Gemini. Saturn at 9 degrees Scorpio makes the apex of the second yod. Yet again, while the outermost planet is not forming the apex, it is a double quincunx yod just the same---the other butterfly wing!

Mayan temples were known to have 9 levels or steps representing the 9 levels of human consciousness development. The Butterfly Crop Circle has 9 orbs on the outside of its wings! The all- important Mayan symbol for their plumed serpent god Quetzalcoatl is known as Hunab Ku. It is a stylized ying/yang symbol in the shape of a butterfly. As in the Mayan culture, butterflies symbolize transformation as human consciousness moves from one stage of development to another. Through biological research we have come to know that once the caterpillar creates its cocoon, it actually completely dissolves its body in order to provide sustenance for its new shape to form. At one point, there is nothing left of the caterpillar but a liquid mass from which a beautiful butterfly will then miraculously emerge! My interpretation of the double yods on December 21st, 2012 is that as we move forward in 2012 we are in the cocoon stage about to become the butterfly. In the words of astrologer Bill Tierney in his book Dynamics of Aspect Analysis. A yod ready for activation is very much like arriving at a fork in the road and having to proceed further in one direction or the other without securely knowing where the route is definitely going to lead to. This new direction, once embarked upon may appear abrupt and unaccounted for but, in fact, it has been accumulating strength and definition for a period of many years. Once the time for the yod is to be activated is right, the individual drops or lets go of certain interests and habits in order to become involved in activities coming upon the horizon. One is often soon surprised to find out how much ability he actually has in this area (no doubt due to those former years of inner preparation .)

The fact that Jupiter is the apex of the exact double quincunx yod makes wonderful sense. Jupiter represents our inner teacher. An important cardinal point is activated by the Solstice Sun at 0 degrees Capricorn on December 21st. As it is activated by the rising, this cardinal sun aligns with the dark rift in the center of the Milky Way Galaxy near 27 degrees Sagittarius. The Maya were aware of this momentous event in which the Sun would fertilize the dark rift or womb of the Galaxy with the conception of a brand new World. The Sixth World of higher consciousness. We can determine that the Maya were aware of this impending astronomical alignment because of an important pyramid in the Yucatan that is built to have the sun rise in the winter of 2012 exactly crown the top level of the pyramid.

Now, thinking back to our yod, since the apex of the first yod is Jupiter , we have a reiteration of the Sagittarius Galactic Center theme. The significance of this yod is also strengthened by the fact that there is a reaction planet directly opposing the apex Jupiter. Again, lady Venus holds this space--- at 7 degrees Sagittarius! As per Tierney, This planet opposite the yod base pinpoints the focused area where the individual s new orientation will center itself. Finding the location of 9 degrees Gemini and 7 degrees Sagittarius in our charts on December 21st 2012 will provide valuable information on the future direction our inner butterfly will travel to. We are indeed living in important transitional times.

In January of 2012 we start fresh on the first of the month. This is the first day that Mercury will be beyond the Mercury shadow. Projects both old and new get a great start as of 10:03 a.m. EST when the moon sextiles Venus. Given that this is a holiday you won t be making business calls per se but sending emails would be helpful to get the ball rolling.

On Sunday the 8th Mercury exits Sagittarius and moves into the sign of Capricorn at 1:34 a.m. EST. Our communications will now center on practical follow through, paying bills for all of the holiday spending and general issues of responsibility in relation to communications. Information from the government will come more available now about programs designed to help qualified mortgage holders and students lower their payments. Expect some possible changes in leadership in Yemen and/or Syria at this time as Capricorn represents traditional leaders and Mercury equals change. The Mercury in Capricorn period lasts from January 8th through January 27th.

The Full Moon on Monday the 9th takes place at 2:30 a.m. EST at 19 degrees Cancer. This Full Moon will square Saturn at 9:25 p.m. EST as well, adding to the drama and emotionalism that accompany a Full Moon in the sign of the crab. Saturn has a depressive effect upon the moon when they square (or challenge) each other. You may be feeling low when you see the bills from the holidays. You may feel lonely after all of the hubbub of the holiday parties now past. Relationships can be touchy this week and misunderstandings are common. Relationships with women friends may feel strained now but don t dwell on what happens now. This is only a short-lived transit that will be felt From Saturday the 7th through Monday the 9th. The Leo sun shines brightly and optimistically again on Tuesday the 10th.

On Saturday the 14th Venus moves into the sign of Pisces at 12:47 a.m. EST. Now is an excellent time to focus on art projects that require meditation and internal searching before they can be created. Venus in Pisces is a wonderful time to connect with the muse and the mystic within ourselves during the height of winter. Venus sextiles (or encourages) Jupiter on this day at 9:49 p.m. EST so inspiration is quick to come to mind if we are open to it. While Venus is in Pisces from the 14th of this month through February 7th Pisces natives will find that they are in demand socially as well as professionally. If you are a single Fish looking to get hitched it s important to get out this month in order to meet potential new partners.

Virgo natives will also find that their ideas are heeded this month whereas Gemini and Sagittarius folks may find resistance from partners and authority figures alike. Regardless of your zodiac sign, use this time of mid-winter dreaming to get in touch with Source through yoga, meditation, art, music, film or poetry. You ll be very glad you did.

The Sun makes its way into the sign of Aquarius on Friday the 20th at 11:10 a.m. under a celebratory moon in Sagittarius. Happy Birthday Aquarius! Aspects are good for a party tonight Waterbearers! Get the gang together for a dinner on this evening or next Sunday when the moon is in vibrant Aries. It s time to celebrate! The sun makes its return to your sign today and will continue to energize your sign through the 18th of February. Aquarius is the fixed air sign of the zodiac which deals with human intelligence. Hence the key phrase for Aquarius is I Know. Aquarians are intelligent people who enjoy a challenge. They are future oriented and enjoy coming up with a variety of solutions to any given problem. Generous with their time and resources, Aquarians are known for their great capacity for friendship and their humanitarian work to create equality in society. This is a time for opening up to new ideas and possibilities. We are inspired to make changes in our concepts and ideas. Innovative approaches to old problems become apparent now. Freedom is the key to what inspires Aquarians most. Abraham Lincoln, who fought against slavery, is an example of an Aquarius freedom fighter. Considered strange for his ideas at the time, Lincoln is now heralded as one of our greatest presidents. Aquarians have benefited over the past decade by having outer planets Uranus and then Neptune in their sign. Together these planets have been stimulating changes that reflect our overall global awareness. This is a time in which old world oppression is no longer widely tolerated and the ideas of Aquarian sun sign natives are not only heard but appreciated. Despite the fact that both Uranus and Neptune will have both moved on to Aries and Pisces as of February 3rd of this year, Aquarian sun sign folks will be highly energized by a trine of productive Saturn in Libra through September this year and a trine of lucky and expansive Jupiter to their sun sign as of June this year. See the Aquarius section of the zodiac weather forecast for more details on your year ahead.

The New Moon on Monday the 23rd at 3 degrees Aquarius happens on the same day as the Mars retrograde and the Chinese New Year of the Dragon. All planets of the zodiac have been direct this month until now. The New Moon takes place at 2:39 a.m. EST and the Mars retrograde follows at 7:54 p.m. EST. This New Moon also takes place less than two weeks before Neptune makes its final exit from the sign of Aquarius and moves into the sign of Pisces for a 14-year stay. A revolutionary tone is set by this very last New Moon of the Neptune in Aquarius period. The moon will conjunct Neptune in Pisces for the final time in our lifetimes on Wednesday the 25th at 3:34 a.m. EST. This is a very spiritual/revolutionary moment when unrest brewing in the Middle East may come to a boiling point once again but escalation of violence may be averted by the fact that Mars is retrograde. Anger will have to simmer beneath the surface from now until April 13th when Mars returns to direct motion with a vengeance under an Aries sun. With Mars in Virgo, issues of self-criticism, logistics and criticism of authorities are likely to arise. Conversely however, this extended Mars in Virgo period which will last until July 3rd, can help many to get on the path to better health and financial solvency through seeking treatment, diet, exercise and the practice of frugality. The Chinese Year of the Water Dragon also begins on this New Moon in Aquarius. The key to the Dragon personality is that Dragons are the free spirits of the Zodiac. Conformity is a Dragon's curse. Restrictions blow out the creative spark that is ready to flame into life. Dragons must be free and uninhibited. The Dragon is a beautiful creature, colorful and flamboyant. An extroverted bundle of energy, gifted and utterly irrepressible, everything Dragons do is on a grand scale - big ideas, ornate gestures, extreme ambitions. However, this behavior is natural and isn't meant for show. Because they are confident and fearless in the face of challenge, they are almost inevitably successful. Dragons' generous personalities give them the ability to attract friends, but they can be rather solitary people at heart. A Dragon's self-sufficiency can mean that he or she has no need for close bonds with other people. Water Dragons born in 1952 and 2012 are more subdued and subtle than the average Dragon. They are more willing to take a back seat when they do not know the ropes of a given situation and are more sensitive to the feelings of others. Famous Water Dragons include: Liam Neeson, Mickey Rourke, Patrick Swayze, Dan Aykroyd, Isabella Rossellini, Christopher Reeve and Roberto Benigni.

On Friday January 27th Mercury will join the sun in the sign of Aquarius at 1:12 p.m. EST. Mercury sharpens our intellect under the sign of the Waterbearer and there will be lightning fast communications that come as a result of this period. Scientific news will abound now as will insights into astrology, both ruled by Uranus and the sign of Aquarius. If you have some difficult mental work to tackle such as a proposal, talk or public speech to prepare, January 18th to the 27th when Mercury is trine Mars is the time to work on it. You will have greater mental stamina now and will be confident in your beliefs. Projects that benefit the masses get an auspicious start now too.

Now let s take a look at the celestial weather forecast for each sign of the zodiac.

ARIES: March 20-April 19: January is particularly intense for the Ram this year. The Capricorn sun from the 1st to the 20th, squares (or challenges) your own. But there are several other celestial aspects stirring up trouble this month as well. Mercury goes into the sign of Capricorn on Sunday the 8th just before the Full Moon in Cancer squares your sun. Now you must edit your comments as inappropriate words will be disapproved of and your wrists slapped pronto. The Full Moon at 19 degrees Cancer on Monday at 2:30 a.m. EST sets you on edge for the whole weekend of the 7th and 8th. This Full Moon falls into your solar 7th house of marriage and open enemies. Anyone who has it in for you will play the hate card now. Don t stoop to meet them on their level but instead let it go. Your mate may be having health issues now or may just be driving you crazy. Either way, try to grin and bear it if you can. The Sun makes a much needed change into the sign of Aquarius on Friday the 20th but your ruling planet Mars goes retrograde at 7:45 p.m. EST on Monday the 23rd. Mars typically goes retrograde every 26 months as Earth s faster orbit catches up to that of our slower moving neighbor.
